HIV and AIDS is one of the core interventions of the Tanzania Council for Social Development (TACOSODE). Since 1990’s TACOSODE has been implementing HIV /AIDS activities targeting various groups of people in the country; these includes workers through work place interventions, PLHIV groups, youth, women and girls and other MARPS (More at Risk Populations).  Under the Global Fund Round Four, TACOSODE contributed to the program aiming at “Filling Critical Gaps for Mainland Tanzania in the National Response to HIV/AIDS care and treatment” by supporting, strengthening PLHIV groups and performing stigma reduction campaigns.

Currently TACOSODE is among other 6 sub-recipients of Global Fund R8 Grant under AMREF Tanzania implementing HIV and AIDS intervention. Phase one of the grants has already phased out and now we are in the second phase which will end in 2014/2015. The program title is SUSTAINING THE MOMENTUM: the March towards Universal Access to HIV and AIDS Services in Tanzania. Focusing mainly on “STRENGTHENING CIVIL SOCIETY ORGANIZATIONS” with the following key activities:-

  • Conducting annual review and planning with PLHIV groups and other CSOs implementing HIV and AIDS interventions.
  • Train PLHIV groups and other CSOs implementing HIV and AIDS interventions on effective representation methods to TNCM.
  • Train PLHIV groups and other CSOs implementing HIV and AIDS interventions on Financial Management, Monitoring and Evaluation.
